This time it’s different from the rest and I don’t know why. This time you’re thousands of miles away, separated by distance and lack of Internet. This time I don’t think about you quite as much — in fact, not at all: until my phone vibrates and I check it thinking it’s you but it isn’t. This time I am preoccupied and buried in meaningless celebrations and mundane work and finals study but I can’t seem to focus. This time I feel like nothing matters, no, not even you. This time I don’t want to see anyone or talk to anyone and maybe it’s a good thing you’re away, after all. This time it’s different from the rest and maybe I do know why; maybe it’s because I’ve finally learned to stand on my own, and I needed you continents away to figure out what I already knew.
